Gabriel Field has long been where the 5th SFG(A) memorializes the conflicts it fought in and honors the men it has lost. They now plan to expand that Legacy by building a memorial on Gabriel Field to the over 800 Special Forces men lost during the Vietnam War.
The new granite memorial will consist of the fallen soldiers’ names, with granite benches and a granite medallion paver with the map of Vietnam and dates of Special Forces-specific operations engraved on it.
Almost 300 of the 800 names on this wall belong to MACV-SOG men, making it a project close to the heart of the SOA. I hope you can donate to remember and honor your brothers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

MG(Ret) Ken Bowra, SOG VeterAn and former 5th Group Commander
“ Gabriel Field is truly “The Heart and Soul” of the 5th Special Group to all who were honored to serve in “The 5th Legion. “
As Commander, 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, we arrived at Ft. Campbell in June 1988 from Ft. Bragg. Gabriel Field was immediately dedicated to remember those we lost, with the planting of a tree in memory of each soldier. Sadly, over the years, Gabriel Field has had many more trees planted to remember our fallen comrades.
The field was also used for our special events, ceremonies and changes of command, to include my changes of command from 2nd Battalion and as Group Commander.
The 5th Group Vietnam Veteran Memorial for Gabriel Field will be a lasting memorial and tribute to those members of the 5th Group lost in Vietnam. It will make Gabriel Field even more special to our soldiers, veterans and family members.
Please remember them by supporting this effort.
Respectfully,
Ken Bowra
All funds raised will be presented by the SOA to Special Forces Association Chapter 38, who are managing the memorial building project.
